Revenues and Benefits teams are facing constant pressure. Workload is rising while budgets tighten and the pressure to do more with less is relentless. The challenge is clear: how can Services break this cycle?
The answer is automation. Our customers have shown how automating routine processes creates valuable space for reallocating resources to higher-priority collection and intervention work.
Exceeding 80% automation
For years, we’ve said that webCAPTURE can automate up to 80% of the workload associated with processing revenues transactions. Universally, that’s no longer the case.
A growing number of councils are now exceeding 80%, with some achieving more than 90% automation on Council Tax Moves – the most complex transactions to automate. And we define what we mean by ‘automation’ – it is “the end-to-end completion of processing, so that liability is updated and a new bill generated, without Officer intervention." By working closely with our customers, we continue to push the boundaries of what can be achieved.
Yet many councils are still sceptical that Moves can now be fully automated from end to end, including post-dated calculation of refunds or credit transfers, without manual intervention. Sharing this knowledge remains one of our key priorities. We don’t just do it, we measure and publish automation rates, by transaction type, for each council.
To help raise aspirations and awareness for what successful automation looks like, we make it a key priority to share the successes our customers achieve, and most importantly, what those tangible results represent.
In the first 3 months of 2025, 784,000 R&B forms were submitted to webCAPTURE (our digital process automation service for Revenues) by citizens, students, landlords and businesses. webCAPTURE made 9.6 million API calls to/from back-office systems to automate processing of these transactions. With 'fully complete, no intervention' automation rates across 57 councils averaging over 80%, that saved the time of 94 FTE Revenues Officers, which illustrates why automation is now a necessity.
Momentum is building. More councils, both NEC and MRI sites, are joining our automation community to ease daily pressures. Our mission remains clear: to provide Automation Made Simple.
That’s our calling card and what every Govtech customer can expect. With us, automation is straightforward, not complex. It either fully automates, or business rules trigger an intervention. Those rules are governed by you, ensuring you remain in control.
And when you go live with automation, our partnership deepens. We’re there at every step, helping you refine your business rules, optimise performance, and unlock more value.
The message is simple: automation doesn’t just make processes faster – it frees up your service to focus on what really matters.
